“Drinking enough water helps improve elasticity in the skin and also helps your skin stay moisturized longer. When the skin looks puffy , it’s actually retaining water to protect you from dehydration.

Hydration is a must

Drinking at least 8 oz of water a day helps the body to flush out toxins and improves your skin tone. Drinking enough water helps improve elasticity in the skin and also helps your skin stay moisturized longer. When the skin looks puffy , it’s actually retaining water to protect you from dehydration. The more hydrated you stay the fewer fine lines and wrinkles you will see.

SPF is your BFF

The sun is what ages you and causes skin hyperpigmentation (brown spots), wrinkles and the most serious is Skin Cancer. Although Skin Cancer is less prevalent in the black community than in the white population, when it does occur it tends to be diagnosed at a later, more advanced stage. Studies show that black people are 4x more likely to be diagnosed with an advance stage of melanoma cancer than white people with similar diagnosis. Always use an SPF of at least 30 and reapply every 90 mins, even on cloudy days you are still being exposed to harmful UVA/UVB rays.

Wash your face before bed

Clogged pores lead to breakouts and acne. Your makeup also harbors bacteria and debris with things you come into contact with like your cell phone, gym equipment, other people etc. If you're not washing all the gunk off your face from the day you're committing a cardinal sin that will eventually come back to haunt you.

Eat a well balanced diet

A balanced diet is important, but there's more than one way to give your skin vitamins. There are also topical antioxidants, which are serums and creams that contain ingredients that nourish the skin (think vitamin C serum!).These can really help to repair the skin from sun damage. Not sure how to use them? The best time to apply them is right after cleansing so that your skin can soak them in, or they can be layered under your sunscreen for added protection.

Have a good skincare routine

A good skincare does not have to be complex, It just needs to be consistent. You must include a good gentle cleanser and a nourishing moisturizer. You should be exfoliating no more than 1-2 times per week to get rid of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin.
